Chiara Topic and Foci

Topic: child immigrants/ refugees

Foci 1: Using The Kite Runner and a long way gone to compare the effects on guilt on a person as they grow older/ in general, in conjunction with the struggles they face as immigrants/refugees. In addition to exploring how their guilt influences their perception of the world.

Foci 2: Using The Kite Runner and a long way gone to compare the childhoods of the two protagonists and look at what motivates them to end lives (figuratively and literally, respectively) as one comes from wealth and privilege while as one comes poverty. What would cause someone to ignore their conscious and what are the affects of ignoring said conscious?

  2. 1. Can guilt be a good thing? Can guilt change a person for the better?
    2. What do children think of as the American dream compared to what adults think the American dream is?
    3. How does money effect people and their opinions on life? Are people with more money happier?
    4. How does family play into this? Is having a family good?

Both of your foci reminded me of coming of age and how the struggles of the protagonists have changed them and shaped them to who they have grown up to be. I like your ideas and think both of them could turn out really nicely. I like your final question about consciousness and like you said in my comment, I think you could include psychology for this. I also was interested in your "theme" comment and thought brining in family dynamic could be beneficial if this is a significant part of Kite Runner and a Long Way Gone.
